Herrenhausen Gardens
~1.7 km · tram 4 or 5, 10 min
Originally constructed at the end of the 17th century as part of the nobility's summer residence. The gardens feature Baroque geometry at full scale — 50 hectares of clipped hedge and fountains. It features many different areas, like the golden figures, the orange parterre, or smaller bosquet gardens. Also features the Grotto that Niki de Saint Phalle lined with mirrors and glass.

Tram 4 or 5 from Universität to Herrenhäuser Gärten, then three minutes on foot. Herrenhäuser Str. 4, 30419 Hannover.
Opposite the Herrenhausen Gardens and next to the SEA LIFE. Green spaces here are less formally laid out but just as beautiful, featuring many local or exotic plants. Here you will also find greenhouses, including the largest orchid exhibition in Europe. You can either get combined tickets for the Herrenhausen Gardens and the Berggarten or tickets for the Berggarten only.

Tram 4 or 5 from Universität to Herrenhäuser Gärten. The entrance is on the north side of the street, across from the Great Garden. Herrenhäuser Str. 4, 30419 Hannover.
An aquarium next to the Berggarten: more than 2,500 animals from 160 species, including Cuban crocodiles, rays, and sea turtles. Also featuring an underwater tunnel. A good answer to a wet afternoon, and it pairs neatly with Herrenhausen next door.

A 2.4 km long lake in the middle of the city and a very popular leisure area. There is a circular walk that goes all the way around the lake (approx. 6 km). Walk, jog, or rent a pedal boat — or simply sit down and enjoy the evening.

Tram toward the center, then a short walk south past the Neues Rathaus. Start at the northern tip by the Sprengel Museum. 30169 Hannover.
The zoo in Hannover is located in the middle of the Eilenriede. It is home to more than 150 species, divided into several thematic areas, such as Yukon Bay, Zambezi, and Afi Mountain. The whole park is very family-friendly, featuring several playgrounds, a boat trip, and an area for petting goats and sheep. The zoo closes at 18:30, so start your day early.

Hannover's town hall. You can freely enter the lobby during the opening hours and explore the four city models showcasing Hannover as it has changed over the centuries. For a few euros, you can also take the curved dome lift and get great panoramic views of Hannover.

A large bouldering hall in the Nordstadt. It doesn't matter whether you are a beginner or want to conquer new routes — everyone is welcome. You can also rent climbing shoes.

About twelve minutes on foot east of the Welfenschloss. Gertrud-Knebusch-Str. 15, 30167 Hannover.
Blacklight mini-golf, played with 3D glasses. They have three themed rooms with a total of 18 different holes. Fully weatherproof. Book in advance for bigger groups.

Germany's largest video-game museum: a thousand square meters, fifty years of hardware, and more than a hundred consoles and arcade cabinets all switched on and free to play once you are inside.
Heads up: open Friday to Sunday only — so this is a before-or-after-the-conference plan, not a Tuesday-evening one. Admission runs in fixed four-hour slots and an online reservation is mandatory.

A well-frequented cozy student pub in the Nordstadt. The menu features a mix of pub food, burgers, pizza, and other dishes that are quite reasonably priced.

The archetypal German student pub: dark wooden tables, left-alternative posters, regional beer and hearty food at fair prices. Located next to the Extrakt.

A Bavarian-style restaurant with dark-wood interiors and a rustic flair. They offer dishes like schnitzel, tarte flambée, pork knuckle, and, of course, beer.

Undecided about what to eat? Why not stroll along the E-Damm and get inspired by the many dining options? The selection includes Indian food, kebabs, pizza, burgers and so on.

One of the oldest pubs in Hannover. They serve traditional German dishes, like currywurst, schnitzel, fried potatoes, or steak and are open until late.

One of the really good ice cream parlors in Hannover. They serve handmade ice cream, often in unusual flavors, although it is a bit pricey. The shop offers only very few seating options. However, you can walk to the river Leine, which is only a few meters away. From there, you have a good view of the Leine-Welle, a standing wave built into the river. On a good day, you can watch the surfers riding the wave.

Yoga & Walking Tours
The morning yoga on Tuesday and Wednesday and the Walking Tours are not part of the main program, but an additional offer and free of charge.
Yoga sessions run from 7:15 to 8:15, and both the meeting point and the location are the Hochschulsport at Am Moritzwinkel 6, 30167 Hannover.
For the walking tour on Monday and the first one on Tuesday, you can meet a staff member at the registration desk twenty minutes before the start — 19:40 on Monday, 17:40 on Tuesday — and walk over together. Otherwise come straight to the starting point in front of the main station (Monday at 20:00, Tuesday at 18:00 and 20:00), at the Ernst-August-Denkmal.

Pharmacies rotate a night-and-weekend duty roster; the nearest open one is listed in the window of any closed Apotheke. Note that most shops and supermarkets close on Sundays.

Getting around town
Twelve Stadtbahn lines run through the two central hubs, Kröpcke and Aegidientorplatz, frequently and mostly step-free. Buses fill the gaps, and the SprintH express lines reach the wider region. The whole city sits inside GVH tariff zone A, so one zone-A ticket covers anything in this guide. If you already hold a Deutschlandticket, it is valid here. When you pick up your badge from the registration desk, you can also pick up a free ÜSTRA ticket for the duration of the conference.
Hannover is flat and can be explored by bike: wide, often red-paved lanes beside the main roads, and twelve signposted velo-routes running star-fashion into the center. E-scooters and e-bikes are free-floating across the city; Uber and Bolt both operate.
Arriving
Hannover Airport is about 25 minutes from the center by S-Bahn, every half hour. From the Hauptbahnhof the venue is 2 km, one tram ride or a 25-minute walk. Coming from outside Europe, Frankfurt often has better connections: switch to a direct ICE at the airport's long-distance station.
